SKATBOARDING BLOG

ABOUT ME

Skateboarding is my first true love. Skateboarding has been a part of my life since I was 10 years old. I was introduced to it when my brother showed me a skateboarding video “Baker 3”. It showcased many different tricks, personalities, and styles. Shortly after the video, I picked up a skateboard at my local skate shop. Since then, I have been enjoying the skateboarding lifestyle. I would like to showcase skateboarding and give my analysis of why it is a beautiful art form. You can find me on my Instagram @himynameisviet.

SKATEBOARDING IS WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT

You can express yourself in unlimited ways with skateboarding. Different styles represent skater’s personalities or moods. You can skate aggressive, fast, and with insane pop. You can skate relaxed, chill, and methodical. You can skate trendy, hip, and spontaneous. A skateboard is within control of your feet…. Or maybe even your hands. Also, a skateboard is customizable as you can choose any graphic, choose variance in size and hardness in wheels, tightness of trucks, shape of deck. There is a lot of culture in skateboarding which starts with little technical details in the equipment that you choose.

SKATEBOARDING INGENUITY

Skateboarding works on your imagination and creativity skills. Skateboarders are looking at everyday surroundings through a different lens and they are wondering if they can skate it. What may look like a normal mundane structure or object, may look like a canvas or a challenge for a skateboarder. These types of spots include the following: stairs, banks, loading docks, curbs, rails, bent poles, pools full of water. Once you have the vision of a skateboarder, there is no turning back.

Skateboarders are always looking to travel around a city to see if there are possible skate spots. They would travel around every street and corner in order to find a spot. We notice patterns when looking for spots regarding location, security, and availability of filming. Skateboarders are always dealing with situations that fluctuate in a series-like pattern. Skateboarders would know their city or hometown like they would know the back of their hand. They know a town so well that they know exactly where a crack on the sidewalk is, or where the crazy guy lives, etc. Skateboarders are detail oriented and can describe nuances of a location.

The Berrics was founded by one of my favorites Eric Koston and Steve Berra in the early 2000s. The Berrics name is the result of combining Berra and Eric. They grew up skating in the 1980s and 1990s. The audience of this page is for more experienced skateboarders. In my opinion, the Berrics is a modernized version of the Skatepark of Tampa. The Berrics is a big influence to the skateboarding culture as it brings a skatepark and landmark in Los Angeles,CA that skateboarders from all over the world can come to and film. Professional Skateboarders from Japan, Brasil, China, Mexico, Canada and many more come to skateboard together. There notable events include Battle At The Berrics, Bangin!, Run N Gun, etc.

One of my favorite series on the page was the Push Series. It included a documentary and interviews about how the skateboarder grew up. Then, the episode finished with an amazing skateboarding video that showcased talent and creativity. The best episode included my favorite skateboarder Ishod Wair who grew up in Philadelphia, PA.

Thank you Berrics for adding to the skateboarding culture and bringing the community together! You can find them on social media platforms and their website. http://theberrics.com
